The Failure of Our GOP

I didn’t vote for McCain. I didn’t vote for Obama.

I don’t feel bad for McCain. I don’t feel bad for Palin.

I couldn’t support McCain or Palin. I couldn’t support Huckabee. I couldn’t support Romney. I couldn’t support Guliani.

Why?

I’m a fiscal conservative. I want a small federal government. That excludes all but one candidate of the GOP.

What does that mean?

I want personal liberty. I fully realize that freedom, TRUE FREEDOM, can only come when everyone is free.

Why does that somehow align me with the Democratic party?

This election season showed me that the GOP is about fear, bigotry, lies, misleading, and hate.

“Obama is untested” says the GOP after promoting the idea that we’re under attack by terrorism. McCain campaign, I’m not scared.
“He’s an Arab!” says the McCain supporter at a GOP rally. Two things shock me about this.
First, he’s not an Arab. He’s a mixture of Kansas and Kenya, born in America (Hawaii). Any idiot that can’t move beyond that fact doesn’t deserve any sort of respect.
Second, what if he were an Arab born in America? What difference does that make? Did we somehow stop thinking of America as a melting pot? When did that happen? If this is a generational problem, I cannot wait for that generation to take their racism and hate to the grave. I don’t like being so dark and precise but we all need to wake up.
The most terrible part about this negativity is that I heard it mostly from “Christians” who also tried to convince me that Obama is the anti-Christ. Since when did the American Christian Church promote bigotry? It reminds me of the history I’ve read about the Ku Klux Klan calling themselves Christians. It makes me wonder what bible these people are reading. McCain campaign, I don’t care about his skin color.
“They do that [socialism] in other countries where the people are not free and where work ethic is not rewarded and entrepreneurial spirit is absolutely stifled and that’s exactly what his plan will do to America,” said Palin at a rally in Pittsburgh. Where do I even begin? First off, we’re not in a pure capitalist society. We have social security, government schools, interstates, libraries, etc. We have also taken $850bn USD from the citizens and given them to the banks to “bail them out“. That is socialism. McCain voted for the bailout. Then, he goes on Larry King and tells him that he doesn’t believe that Obama is a socialist. McCain campaign, I don’t buy the lies.
“Senator Obama has voted 94 times to either increase your taxes or against tax cuts.” says McCain. Does the GOP campaign not realize that people actually check the facts claimed by political candidates? I will leave the fact checking to the Internet. Instead of trying to make the other guy look terrible by misleading the public, why not try to look better than the other guy? McCain campaign, I’m smarter than that.
“Terrorist!” says one McCain supporter. “Kill him!” says another McCain supporter. Pathetic. No matter what your political party, you should never attempt to use hate to get elected. I’m not sure what form of knuckledragger the McCain campaign thinks I am, but I’m not. I look at Obama’s record and his choices and see someone who has given up the greedy path and stuck to public service. I may not agree with him 100%, but I cannot hate him. McCain campaign, I don’t feel the hate.

Now we know that this political party has failed. Obama has won the election. Where does this leave the Republican party? Some haven’t given up on hate. I have almost given up on the Republican party. There are two options for the party. Either they get back to the real conservative ideas of a small federal government. Along with the fiscal conservative ideals, the Republican party has to get back to their social conservative ideals of “loving thy neighbor” and quit with the bigotry. Even if the Republican party has the best ideas and political mentality, they will not win with this devicive bigotted mentality. I don’t mean the politicians running for office. I mean the members of the political party who forward e-mails to all their friends from church about the political candidates being the anti-Christ. I mean the idea that America can take its enormous military to any foreign territory playing the role of the world police and not make people hate us for it. I mean the idea that the society that promotes greed, above family and community good, will create wealthy people who will somehow “trickle down” wealth.

Think about this situation… You are an unmarried individual who has just finished college getting a degree in education. You have a small amount of student loans but you get a job immediately. Your student loans, car payment, and housing costs keep you living paycheck to paycheck. You cannot afford health insurance and after a few years of work, you are diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease.

Contrast that situation to this situation… You are an ivy league graduate. One of your parents helped you get into an ivy league school and pushed you through financially supporting you in every way. You move into a management level position instantly making six figures. You have life, health, dental, auto, home-owners, fire, flood, and every other type of insurance known to mankind. After a few years of work, you are diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease.

Who has a better chance of living through the disease?

The fact that death is closer to the poor than the wealthy is a flaw in this country. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t enjoy the thought of government run health care. But I don’t enjoy the thought of a fellow citizen dying because they couldn’t afford coverage. One step further, I don’t enjoy the though of a fellow citizen paying thousands of dollars a year for the rest of their life to pay for the medical treatment they received to save their life.

If anyone can think back a few decades, you can remember that it used to be that we didn’t have hospitals refusing services for the homeless and broke. This was before medicaide. Can we get back there? We used to have a conscience for strangers. It used to be a ridiculous thought that someone dying of cancer better have brought their checkbook or they’re going to receive medical care that’s under par and could possibly die.

….more coming when I find more time. I just had to get this off my chest tonight.

Ahh the familiar burn

So I followed the recommendations and upgraded Wordpress. It destroyed the layout. Yeah… Great…

Site redesign

I’ve been posting stuff that is too big for the current CSS div’s and it is screwing up the layout. I’ll be working on it soon.

Re-evaluate everything. I’m going to be doing a special write-up on an idea I have about rethinking everything.

Re-evaluate it all.

Stay tuned.

Updated Wordpress

I hate doing this usually. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. That’s usually my motto. However, this one was fairly simple. I have to make a few customizations before it is done but all went well. The new management is quite nice. Very easy on the eyes and seems to be quite a bit faster.
