I am told I post too much stuff that is depressing. Today I have been trying to figure out what it is that makes people think they only need to experience the pretty and easy parts of life. In many cultures, you must go through something large to mature from a boy to a man. The pain, reality, or experience as a whole is converted into a better human being.
If our society never sees the truth in its uncompromising state, we can never fix flaws.
Take our current President for example. In the last seven years, he has been obsessed with “security” and now our economy is in complete shambles with nine million homes up for foreclosure, gas prices triple what they were a decade ago, health care costs skyrocketing, and inflation at an all time high. Until recently, the President and his staff have constantly proclaimed our economy was healthy and vibrant with no signs of slowing down. He ignored the reality and has a huge mess to leave for the next President.
The problem with the common American’s situation is the contrast to George Bush’s situation: he gets to leave the mess for someone else to clean up. We, as Americans, cannot leave the mess. We live in the mess and we are the mess. If we continue to ignore the painful reality and keep thinking we are fine and that we don’t have to face reality, we will fail and will get to a point where we don’t have a choice but to face a brutal new reality.
