The Virtual Machine Mail Project

I’ve been thinking for a long time that I need to have a server built specifically for my e-mail. I know IMAP was a must since I’m neurotic about being mobile without any restrictions on data. I know I would probably stick to Debian (or a Debian based OS) for the underpinnings.

Well I’m half way there. I have the server setup as a virtual machine. It is running postfix/procmail/spamassassin/courier-imap at the moment. I only have a single user setup right now. I’m using one of my accounts that has a ton of junk-mail coming in to it for testing. Fetchmail is working beautifully other than a TLS cert issue it keeps e-mailing me about (the local user is setup to receive postmaster e-mail).

One issue I have yet to work out is how I am to send from my five different domains when I only have one local e-mail account. I may have to do a little duct tape work. Oh well.

Next steps are setting up quota and monitoring on the server. The debate is still in the air whether or not I should setup a Debian VM or server to be on the MX record for my domains. I almost don’t want the hassle ya know?

Leericks

Eating away at my body and soul

So tired of all that you’ve taken

I’ve always known that I’d be on my own

Not knowing how hard I’d fallen

In your arms

Destroying all I ever wanted

Now it’s gone

Losing all I ever needed

Been so long

Destroying all I ever wanted

It’s all gone

You’ve taken all I ever needed

Believed in all I’d ever known

Left me to die here on my own

You took it all and left me

You took it all and left me nothing

If I survive long enough to come back

Won’t you forgive me for falling?

Revolution OS

So I’m watching this movie based on a recommendation of a friend (thanks Dave). I’m getting the nerdy feeling that I got when I first got my Packard Bell 486 SX2 50MHz and found the DOS prompt. It feels like someone pushing me from behind while grabbing my head and pointing it in a certain direction (you know, just like Ma’ used to). The passion for engineering utilized creation is a strong one. I wish I knew something that would keep the passion hot like it is now.

I hope to start working on something incredibly nerdy soon. Maybe even have something come of it!
